[Warframe] Vauban Prime, Khora, MR 21

MR 21!

I got enough Mastery XP to be able to take the test a week or so ago.  I looked up the test so I knew what I was getting into, then I did a practice run using Rhino, and I beat it… not handily, but it wasn’t bad either.  So I went in for real, and had a total brain fart and failed badly.  So badly, I that I think it shook my confidence and so I didn’t bother trying it again for a while.  When I did go back, I used Banshee instead, in my “caster” mode, as I’d read somewhere that a frame with good AoE makes the test a lot easier.  And it did.  I did a practice again, making sure to simply beeline for the time-extending orbs, killing mobs as the opportunity presented itself on the run, and hitting 4 occasionally for the big AE that seems like it would add another 5 or so mobs to the total killed.  End result of that practice was I beat it and had about 25 seconds on the clock still.  So I went in and did it again “for real” and had pretty much the exact same result.  So yay!  MR 21 achieved!

There was a new update this past week and it introduced a new frame called Khora.  she’s supposed to be a hunter of some kind and her gimmick is that she’s got a long-duration kavat summon in addition to her sentinel or other companion.  If it dies, she can just re-summon it without needing to worry about reviving it.  Her abilities are:

  • 1 — a relatively low-damage whip
  • 2 – a spreading CC.  Cast it on 1 mob and others that get close have it spread to them also.  Hitting mobs with this CC on them with the #1 ability explodes it for much higher damage.
  • 3 – the kavat summon
  • 4 – this one drops a big ball of chains that ragdolls any enemies caught in it for a quite decent duration.  The description says it will grab enemies that get too close also, but in using it, I didn’t notice more getting pulled in.  That said, I was in Helene on Saturn, mostly, so mobs tend to die very fast there anyway, so it could just be that we killed them before they could wander close enough.

Apparently the initial plan was for her #4 to be an “Exalted Whip” a la Excalibur’s Exalted Blade or even Ivara’s Artemis Bow, but they couldn’t get the tuning right on it or something, so the chain dome was subbed in instead.  Maybe temporarily?  I dunno.  Anyway, my verdict on her is “she seems fine, but doesn’t really seem to stand out either.”

Edit:  Apparently changes are incoming tomorrow, as highlighted by Tactical Potato.  Changes he mentioned are:

  • Cast times reduced
  • Her #2 is now an AoE rather than single target, and is spread by hitting it with #1, instead of creeping to other mobs that come close.
  • #3 will now simply be a permanent pet, acting like a standard kavat.  If it dies without being revived, then you can *not* re-summon it. (TP wasn’t happy about this, and I agree with him — you should be able to cast 3 to re-summon, IMO)
  • #4 will now drop killed enemies so that it can grab new ones.  Also, if you use #1 on enemies caught in the dome, it will do full damage to the one you hit, and all other enemies caught will take half damage, so it could be a decent AoE damage skill.
  • #4 is here to stay — the exalted whip will NOT be happening

End edit.

Vauban Prime!

I also finally ground out enough excavation missions to get the 9,000 cryotic that I needed to build the last piece of Vauban Prime, so I’ve got that frame now.  In a bit of irony, the easiest frame to use to grind out the cryotic was Vauban.  The Repelling Bastille augment on his #3 ability makes it such that the infested mobs of Hieracon on Pluto just can’t really attack the excavators.  There are a couple of infested with ranged attacks, but they’re not common and they don’t do much damage anyway.  Plus they carry the energy pods needed for the excavators, so they’re high priority to be killed anyway.  But yeah, since I now had both Vauban and Vauban Prime, that means I wouldn’t be using the normal Vauban anymore, so I sold off the normal Vauban to free up the frame slot, then pulled Vauban Prime out of the foundry to fill it.  I’ve already ranked him and forma’d him to a good build and then I used him to grind out *another* 9,000 cryotic for my final Trinity Prime piece.  That’s cooking now, so I’ll be able to start the Trinity Prime frame tonight, and she’ll be available on Friday.

Found another kuria

In other bits and bobs, another co-worker has started playing along with his son, so we’ve been working on ranking up his Excalibur a bit.  I’ve taxied him to Helene on Saturn to boost him faster, but we’ve also been working him through the early planets.  We’ve got him to Mercury so far, and he’s already MR3 since I had him buy the MK1 weapons to rank up for the MR XP.  We also farmed the Jackal enough that he got all the Rhino pieces, and I taxied him around to get the Control Modules and Plastids he needed to be able to start that frame cooking.  And since my tax return recently came in and I got the 50% plat discount as my daily login reward, I splurged on the biggest plat package, and I used some of that to gift him a frame of his choosing.

He went with Nekros, and he’s been enjoying the hell out of that — to the point where I pulled my Nekros Prime out of storage and realized that it is indeed amazingly fun, especially with the Despoil augment on the Desecrate ability and the Shield of Shadows augment on his #4.  Plus Equilibrium which then gives basically unlimited health and energy.  Double loot drops from Desecrate, and the Shadows give 90% damage reduction besides.  What’s not to like?

It works great!  Firing 9.33 shots per second, 75% are crits, and 30% of those proc slash, so 2-ish slash procs *per second* to go with the 5-6-ish viral procs per second, plus the 7-ish crits for 4K per shot also, and 2 regular hits of about 800.  According to warframe-builder, it’s about 22K DPS, but that site doesn’t take the slash procs from Hunter Munitions into account.  They do about 3500 per hit, not counting the actual dot.  Plus viral halves the mob’s health, so… it works better than the numbers might make you think.

To top that off, I got myself a Telos Boltor from my Steel Meridian syndicate and forma’d it up enough to use the Riven mod that I got for Boltor in a nice hybrid viral/slash configuration.  Between the damage and status boost on the riven and the high crit chance it’s got, paired up with Hunter Munitions giving slash procs on my critical hits, it does surprising amounts of damage.  It tears up juggernauts during infested invasions, did really nicely vs the Phorids, and can kill the Nox mobs in Helene and Hydron in only 3 headshots.  Not bad for a weapon that doesn’t even do slash damage, yet is constantly proc’ing slash status, no?

I finished the Pluto map last night also.  I’d been doing missions to get the Ambulas Nav Coordinates, but then last night there was an invasion that used that tile, and doing an invasion treats a tile as completed, so I finished Pluto without even needing to fight Ambulas.  How silly is that?  I still plan to get enough coordinates to actually do the fight though — gotta experience everything, right?  I’m also down to only 2 spots left on Sedna — the final arena, plus the final boss.  Still have quite a bit of on Eris, but I have chipped away at it a little.  Map completion is getting closer…

And I also only need 16 more Cetus wisps in order to finish the Lohrin brace for my “213” amp that I want to build.  I seem to be getting 3 per run lately, though I tend to take about 10-11 minutes per run, unlike the 2-4 minutes that the “efficient farmers” show on their videos.  Of course I also grab the other resources as I see them, stop to mine if I see a node, and so on.  I’m not laser-focused on just getting the wisps.  Gotta do it all!

And this is getting to be really long, so… happy gaming out there!

  1. Sorry to be off topic, but I’ve been going around and asking bloggers I follow if they’d be interested in doing a guest post for Superior Realities. As you may have seen, I’ve had to slow down my posting, but I don’t want the blog to die too much. Could get some extra eyes on your blog.

If you’re interested, send me a message via the contact page on my blog, and we can discuss details.
