Exploring Age of Conan (Again)

I picked up AoC: Rise of the Godslayer from Ebgames at a pretty reasonable price, and decided to create a new account to make use of the 30 days ‘free’ you get. My old account (which I barely played I will admit now) has the basic game but not the expansion and I don’t believe I managed to get past level 10 on it. I wasn’t exactly looking to add yet another game to the collection that I’m playing but since I’ve stopped playing WoW (once my priest hit 80 I just got completely bored) and haven’t been playing EQ2, I had a few games drop from my radar and being the constant multi-tasker wanted to dip my toes into something ‘new’. AoC is one of those games I always talk about wanting to give a fair try, but then never actually got around to it.

The expansion came with all sorts of goodies for new players and the experience was a lot easier than I remember it being. I started out by making a Khitan Dark Templar on a PvE server. This is a tank class that also casts spells, and after getting to level 6 I decided I may as well just play what I want to play, which is a healer.

Previously I had been warned against playing healer classes, being told that melee in AoC was far more interesting. I took this into consideration as I started leveling up my new Aquilonian Priest of Mitra – but I didn’t have any problems this time around.

The game looks amazing compared to my last attempt as well. I didn’t have the i7 quad core with 8 gigs of RAM that I’m now sporting, nor did I have two ATI 4800’s crossfired, or a few other goodies and it really makes a difference. The game looks incredible, and it plays very well. I’m a little bored of doing Tortage because I’ve done this portion a few times now (and have never made it past) – my fingers are crossed that I stick with the game long enough to see what happens next.

Channels so far have been pretty active, but then again there’s only four servers (That I can see at least) so the population SHOULD be fairly good, at least one would hope. I’m hoping to actually make it some where in the game this time around. We’ll just have to see how it goes. So far I’m sitting at a comfortable level 10, and I’m looking forward to playing more later this evening.
